Prologue

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta issues Champions League rallying cry ahead of Real Madrid blockbuster

We have to be bold and brave says Arsenal boss Arteta before taking on Real Madrid in the Bernabeu

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has issued a rallying cry ahead of his side's Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

The Gunners take on Carlo Ancelotti's Los Blancos in the cauldron of the 80,000 capacity Estadio Santiago Bernabeu with the cushion of a 3-0 lead from the first leg of the quarter-final clash in London last week.

Speaking to a Spanish journalist on Tuesday evening in the Spanish capital, a bullish Arteta said: “We have to be bold and brave...this is what I’m trying to convey to my players…”

However, earlier on Tuesday, Real's English midfielder Jude Bellingham spoke of a 'remontada', which means comeback in Spanish, with many seasoned observers of the La Liga giants predicting a sensational Bernabeu turnaround.

Arteta countered, insisting: "The mindset to win. To be brave. "To be dominant. The conviction that we can be better than them and win the game.”

The Arsenal boss also hoped from more from the first leg's two goal free-kick hero Declan Rice, saying: “He is creating his story with us…the way he did it, the manner he did it, it’s about creating more. If he believes more, it’s going to happen more…”

Despite Real's Bellingham discussing hopes of a 'remontada', Gunners keeper David Raya was also in bullish mood ahead of the blockbuster tie.

“The mood is great…” said Raya, speaking at the Bernabeu on Tuesday evening: “We know how big a club Real Madrid is so it would be good to knock them out.”

Raya added: “The intention is to win the game…we come here to win the game...you want to play against the best if you want to win trophies…”

Arsenal:

The Gunners have been boosted by the fact that Thomas Partey has travelled after picking up a knock against Brentford.

The Ghana midfielder trained at London Colney on Tuesday morning ahead of the flight to the Spanish capital.

“He is available,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said of Partey at his pre-match press conference. “He had a little niggle during the game [against Brentford], that’s why he had to come off. But he felt good after the last few days so he’s fine.”

Raheem Sterling is available again after missing the first leg through suspension but Jorginho has not travelled after being injured against the Bees.
