Arsenal attacker Gabi Martinelli has been speaking ahead of crucial Champions League clash vs PSG
The Gunners 23-year-old Brazil attacker has been speaking ahead of the North Londoners' crucial clash with PSG at the Emirates on Tuesday evening.
With Renee Slegers' side reaching the women's version of the Champions League final, the Brazil star says Mikel Arteta's side can take inspiration from their heroics when easing past Lyon 4-1 in France on Sunday evening, to win the their last four clash 5-2 on aggregate.
Martinelli said of the AWFC side reaching the Champions League final in Lisbon a week before the men's showpiece event in Munich: “We are really proud of the girls and we are going to try to do the same.”
Looking towards Tuesday's blockbuster semi-final against the Parisian billionaire moneybags, Martinelli explained: “We deserve to be here. It’s going to be a great match… [Arsenal] is one of the biggest clubs in the world…we are really happy and excited for the game," adding: “Everyone has to have their dreams.
“When I was in Brazil I had this dream [of reaching the Champions League final]”
Martinelli scored in the Gunners emphatic 2-0 victory over Luis Enrique's side at the Emirates back in October in the league stage, and will be aiming to do the same against the French side that has now picked up their form.
Whne quizzed on the differences between PSG in the autumn and now, Martinelli insisted their opponents are “still an amazing team.
"We won the game 2-0 and we played really well. They have changed a bit. We don’t think too much about them. We are The Arsenal. We are ready.”
With Arsenal coming into the game on the back of the Gunners superb 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the quarter-finals, which saw Martinelli and Bukayo Saka score to send the North Londoners through to the last four, by sealing a 5-2 aggregate victory.
Martinelli said of Saka: “He’s a brother to me. He’s one of the best players in the world and we are lucky to have him here [at Arsenal].”
Martinelli signed for the Gunners back in 2019 at the tender age of 17, with his career running parallell with boss Arteta's during the time since.
The 23-year-old said of his boss Arteta: “He has helped me so much and giving me advice. He is one of the best in the world and we are lucky to have him here.”
With Martnelli having two years remaining on his contract, the club are set to start discussions over extending his deal, with the future looking bright for the humble young Brazil star.
“I’m really happy here," said Martinelli, adding: 'This is my home. I love to be here. I love the club. It has given me so much on the pitch and off the pitch.
"The club has been amazing with me.”
