Gunners travel to south coast in return after international break

Prologue

Arsenal return to Premier League action later today, Saturday (October 19) as they make the trip down to the south coast to play Bournemouth.

A victory for the Gunners would put pressure onto title rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, who do not play until Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s side came from behind to beat Southampton before the international break, while the Cherries lost to Leicester last time out.

Team news

Bournemouth have a fully-fit squad, with Tyler Adams available for the first time this campaign

Arsenal boss Arteta said on Friday he was "hoping for some positive news" on injured quartet Kai Havertz, Ben White, Jurrien Timber and Oleksandr Zinchenko ahead of this weekend.

Arteta is also hopeful Bukayo Saka will be available despite being forced off during England's Nations League defeat against Greece with a hamstring issue.

Gabriel Martinelli will be assessed after he picked up a calf issue on international duty with Brazil - but Thomas Partey is back in contention following injury.

Captain Martin Odegaard is still out.

Predicted Arsenal XI to face Bournemouth

Raya, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori, Rice, Partey, Merino, Saka, Havertz, Trossard

Head to head

Played: 16

Wins: 13

Draws: 2

Defeats: 1

Arsenal have won eight of the past nine meetings, with the only defeat in 16 matches in all competitions was 2-1 Premier League loss to Bournemouth back in January 2018.

This series stretches back to a 3-0 League Cup victory over Bournemouth at Highbury in 1987, and while there haven’t been too many classics, the 3-3 vs the Cherries back in January 2017 was a strange match.
