Prologue
After 120 years of competitive fixtures in the citadel of the blue half of Merseyside, across 104 matches, Arsenal make their final appearance at grand old Goodison Park on Saturday lunchtime.
Arsenal supporters will know the sense of impending dislocation Toffees fans will surely feel once they finally depart their spiritual home.
Indeed, for plenty of Gooners of a certain vintage, many still still pine for hallowed Highbury, 19 long years since the North Londoners exited for the brave new world of the Emirates.
One can but wish Everton well, but the sense of loss will be immense come next season for many of the blue persuasion, even if the pain will be slightly assuaged by the fact that their club have somehow managed to build a state of the art stadium despite all their off field - and for that matter on field travails over the last few years.
Which brings us to Saturday's clash. With Arsenal very much trying not to look further than Goodison, while also praying fervently that the Gunners endure no further debilitating, season-ending injuries that could turn out to be so costly against former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid side, when the Galacticos arrive next week.
Everton battled valliantly over two matches against their bitter rivals, and Champions elect, Liverpool, which included going down 1-0 at an Anfield earlier this week.
For their part Arsenal are a steadfast second, just about away from the desperate mire of teams battling for a Champions League spot next season.
While three points would be welcomed against David Moyes' side on Saturday, there will be as many Gooners simply hoping that Mikel Arteta's side merely avoid injury, ahead of their season defining two-legged quarter-final clash against the Spanish aristocrats next week.
